HAPPY SISTERHOOD MONTH!!

Greetings Sorors of the Mighty Midwest:

Oh, what a blessing and a privilege it is to be able to call you my sorors, my sisters! I so appreciate your outstretched arms of welcome, your warm smiles of affection, your ongoing words of wisdom and the many blessings and lessons you share. During a time when many of us are losing our homes, our jobs and experiencing a time of uncertainty, there is a constant – we have each other. In addition to supporting and uplifting our communities together, we can also share our anxiety as well as our exhilaration with one another.

Sorors, during this month, especially, make sure you celebrate the sisterhood. Reach out and touch another soror with a kind word, a cheerful telephone call or a special card. Visit a convalescing soror or a Delta Dear who would so enjoy a little of your time. Reach across the aisle at your chapter meetings and let a sister know you are there and you care. Hold hands alumnae and collegiate sorors; teach and learn, lead and follow, grow your relationships.

As we continue to rededicate ourselves in the remaining statewide founders activities, let us do it with the same sincerity and zeal that we had when we took the oath. Throughout the month reflect on the following poem.

What does it mean, a Sorority? What does it mean to you? Is it just a name Bringing local fame, With perhaps a friend or two?

What of your life in the world of Greeks? What have they gained through you? Have you won a smile Done a thing worthwhile, Or wasted a year or two?

Ah, what does it mean a sorority To one with a heart of gold? Tis to love and to serve And high ideals preserve With a wealth of joy untold

Thank you my sorors, my sisters, of the Mighty Midwest, for all that you do. You are the best! Again, Happy Sisterhood Month!

Sisterly, Octavia G. Matthews Director, Midwest Region

Dear Mighty Midwest Sorors and Guests,

It is with quenchless zeal and humble enthusiasm that I welcome you to the online home of the Mighty Midwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated! On behalf of the 132 chapters, I greet you and hope that you will peruse the contents of this website often and discover it to be a resource for your chapters as we aim to Make Our Region Visible and Effective in Community Service!,

Now, more than ever, we must utilize the benefits of technology to reach new heights in our chapters and in our communities. The states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, West Virginia, and Wisconsin are MIGHTY by reputation. Our actions must continue to speak for us and it is the belief of Soror Octavia Matthews, myself, and the entire Regional Leadership team that the Regional Website will allow sorors and the public to stay cognizant of Delta’s exemplary service in the Midwest Region.

Consider this website a tool to accessing the latest news and developments in the Mighty Midwest as well as a mechanism to establish and maintain contact with other chapters in the region.  Through this site and other regional developments, I anticipate a successful sorority year as we move together with “One Mission, One Sisterhood: Empowering Communities through Committed Service.

I look forward to engaging with each of you and encourage you to explore all the Mighty Midwest has to offer!
